An induction is essential for new foster carers or short break carers. An induction will help you to understand your role in supporting children and young people when their parents can’t. It will also help you understand the responsibilities of services that work with children and young people.

The induction framework is not a learning programme. It’s based around a set of outcomes to help you carry out your role safely. These outcomes make sure you have the knowledge and skills you need.

You won’t be expected to meet all the outcomes before becoming an approved foster carer.

The workbooks are designed to help and support you. The guidance explains how to use the induction framework and meet the outcomes.
