The Welsh Government has launched a recruitment campaign to help us find a new Chair and Board member.

We are searching for a new Chair as our current Chair Arwel Ellis Owen OBE will be stepping down in July 2019 after a 10-year term.

We are also looking for a new Board member to fill the 14th spot on our Board, a role which wasn’t filled when we recruited the other 13 members of our Board in 2017.

The Chair’s main duties are to:

  • make decisions
  • provide leadership
  • approve strategies
  • monitor performance
  • make a final decision on how to make best use of our money.

The new Chair will be expected to take up the post from 1 August 2019 and will be expected to spend eight days per month in the role – this includes attending and preparing for all Board, Committee and partner meetings.

The Chair will be paid £337 per day, and will receive travel and subsistence in accordance with Welsh Government guidance.

Our Board is lay-led, which means it will always have more members who use care and support, carers and members of the public than professionals who work in social care.

The new Board member will be expected to take up their role in July 2019 and will be expected to spend two days per month in the role – this will include attending and preparing for Board and Committee meetings, and attending training.

The Board member will be paid £250 a day, and will be able to claim travel and subsistence in accordance with Welsh Government guidelines.

The Minister for Children, Older People and Social Care, Huw Irranca-Davies, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a real commitment to improving the social care and early years’ sectors in Wales to use their skills and experiences to make a difference to both these vitally important sectors.

“They would be expected to help build confidence in the workforce, and to lead and support improvement in social care throughout Wales.

“I want to encourage anyone who thinks they can make that difference to apply for these important roles.”

Applications close at 4pm on 4 January 2019.
