Your responsibilities as a registered person

Your responsibilities are once you have registered with us, including PRTL and keeping your details up to date.

Following the Code of Practice

The Code sets the standards, or rules, for all care professionals in Wales. If you don’t follow the Code, you may be reported to us. If you see people doing things at work you think are unsafe, or things you wouldn't expect from a good social care worker, you should get in touch with us.

We have a fitness to practise team which looks at whether people have the knowledge, skills and character needed to be a good social care worker. They will use the Code when looking into a worker’s practice if a concern has been raised.

If a worker is not fit to practise they can be removed from the Register and won't be able to practice in Wales.

More information on our fitness to practice pages.

You will also need to follow the practice guidance for your role. This supplements the Code with standards that are specific to your role.

More about the practice guidance.

Post registration training and learning (PRTL)

Training and learning is a requirement for all registered people. You have to complete 15 days or 90 hours of training and learning during each three year period of registration.

Everyone must keep a record of their post registration training and learning. You can do this anytime in your SCWonline. You’ll need to record:

  • the date
  • how long it was for
  • a brief description of how training contributed to your professional development.

Keep us informed of any changes

A registered person must inform the registration team of any changes in their information. Do this as soon as possible. Not telling us may result in being referred to a fitness to practise panel.

You must keep us informed of changes to your:

  • name
  • title
  • employment
  • home address
  • registration with another regulatory body
  • criminal record
  • health record
  • disciplinary record
  • contact details.

You can view and update your details at any time in your SCWonline account in the ‘My Profile’ section.

The consolidation programme

The consolidation programme is a requirement for all social workers who qualified after 1st April 2016 . It must completed in the first three years of registration.

This programme is the first part of continuing professional education and learning (CPEL).

Provide evidence of registration

We no longer supply certificates of registration. But, you’ll receive a granted letter confirming your registration.

If you need evidence that you are registered you can get an up to date record from SCWonline –‘Proof of registration’ or you can check your name on the Register below.
