We aim to use research to support practitioners, employers and researchers to better understand what works well so they can support those who need protection, care and support.

Our ambition is to help improve well-being by applying evidence-based policy, practice and service models that have a focus on prevention and early intervention. We know this is ambitious and we will need to prioritise our activities, which are set out in our proposals for a five-year research and development plan.

The proposals cover five areas:

  • Involving the public in social care research and development
  • Research priorities
  • Use of existing and routinely collected data
  • Developing the workforce and organisations
  • Making research results available.

The plan also sets out 16 recommendations to help create and enhance the research and development of social care in Wales.

You can read the proposals and have your say about them in our consultation the Social Care Research and Development Strategy for Wales 2017-22
