Workbooks have been developed for each section to help put the induction into practice and to support new workers to generate some of the evidence needed to achieve the core knowledge learning outcomes in the progress logs and to prepare for the formal assessment of the Core Qualification.
Completing the workbooks isn’t a mandatory requirement more of a helpful tool for managers and workers.
They can provide evidence of:
- achievement of the core knowledge learning outcomes in the AWIF
- achievement of probation requirements
- readiness for formal assessment of the Core Qualification
- performance that can be used towards evidence for the Practice Qualification
- the use of a robust induction process for service regulators.
To support learning the workbooks are made up of activities that include case studies, films and questions.
There is a mixture of case studies available and the learning from these is transferrable across different roles and settings. You may wish to change, use experiential learning or add to the case studies to reflect the part of the sector you are working in.
As the new worker progresses through the learning activities in the workbook, you will need to meet with them to see how they are doing and discuss any extra support or help they need. You should complete the progress log with the new worker and provide support if there are any gaps.
It is important the new worker keeps the evidence they have gathered by completing the workbooks. This will be used by their qualification assessor later to establish if they are ready to complete the formal assessment of the Core Qualification or if they need additional learning.
Some managers have reported that it is helpful for managers, mentors and more experienced members of staff to complete some of the workbook activities. This can help support new workers through the process as well as upskilling existing members of staff.
