Higher education institutions’ (HEIs) responsibilities

HEIs are responsible for supporting students’ registration with Social Care Wales. 

Responsibilities include:

• becoming recognised signatories
• verifying and endorsing applications
• promoting the Code of Professional Practice for Social Care.

HEIs must:

• nominate social work students for registration
• provide us with enrolment and enhanced DBS information and let us know about returning/withdrawn or deferred students
• let us know when a student is removed from a programme because of suitability concerns
• endorse final year students’ applications
• exchange information with us
• tell us about any issues around a student’s fitness to practice
• send us the official exam board pass lists signed by the programme director and external examiners
