Your responsibilities as a registered person

By registering with us you’re agreeing to work to the standards of the Code of Professional Practice for Social Care Workers. The Workers’ Code sets out what’s expected of people working in social care, to help keep the public safe.  

Everyone who’s registered with us must work to the standards of the Workers’ Code. 

You must: 

• help the people they care for say and achieve what matters to them 
• respect individuals’ views, rights and wishes 
• support individuals’ well­-being and help keep them safe 
• be honest, trustworthy and reliable 
• be qualified to do their job properly.

As part of our responsibility to make sure social care workers on our Register have the skills, knowledge and character to carry out their work safely and effectively, we will use the Code when dealing with concerns raised about registered persons. 

If you don’t follow the Code, you may be reported to us. If you see people doing things at work you think are unsafe, or things you wouldn't expect from a good social care worker, you should let us know.

Everyone on our Register must take part in training or learning as part of your continuing professional development (CPD).

You must let us know about changes to the following information: 

• name 
• title 
• employment 
• home address 
• registration with another regulatory body 
• criminal record 
• health record 
• disciplinary record 
• contact details. 

You should do this as soon as possible. If you don’t, you may be referred to a fitness to practise panel. 

If you work in more than one regulated group, or you change the group you work in, you’ll need to change your registration. 

You can view and update your details at any time in your SCWonline account in the ‘My Profile’ section. 

We’ll email you confirming your registration once it's been granted.  

If you need proof that you are registered with us login to your SCWonline account and go to ‘Proof of registration’. 

You can also check your name on the Register.

If you qualified as a social worker after 1 April 2016, you must complete the consolidation programme within your first three years of being registered.
