Information about why we register people working in social care in Wales.
We register people in certain roles in social care in Wales to help keep the public safe. When someone joins our Register, it means they’re skilled and competent to do their work, and they have the right values to provide good care and support.
Everyone on our Register must also follow our Code of Professional Practice for Social Care Workers. This means they agree to work to certain standards of behaviour.

Registration benefits people working in social care, people who use care and support services and the wider public.
- It builds trust and confidence – everyone on our Register must have the right skills, knowledge and training to do their job
- It helps keep people safe by protecting people’s rights and making sure they’re listened to
- It supports people to be independent and protect themselves
- It protects the public. If someone isn’t fit to practise, they can be removed from the Register so they can no longer work in a registered social care role in Wales.
