Information about what CPD means for registered workers and what employers are responsible for.
What is CPD?
All registered social care workers agree to work to the standards of the Code of Professional Practice for Social Care Workers.
Working to the Code means they take responsibility for keeping their knowledge and skills up to date by carrying out regular continuing professional development (CPD).
Your role as an employer
It’s important you meet regularly with your staff to discuss their CPD.
You should let them know what opportunities are available and help them decide what CPD to do.
It’s your responsibility to support your staff by:
- giving them opportunities to access, discuss, reflect on and share best practice in the workplace
- making sure they have induction, training and learning opportunities
- making time for them to be supervised and appraised
- giving them helpful feedback about their performance and development.
You should advise your worker to keep an up-to-date log of their CPD.
We may sample workers’ CPD so it’s important to keep accurate records.
