To make sure workers in Wales provide good care and support, we have Codes of Professional Practice, and we register groups of workers to make sure they’re suitable to work in social care.

The Codes are a set of rules, or standards, care professionals must work to, to help keep people safe and well.

There are two Codes of Professional Practice, one for social care workers and one for employers.

We've made the language simpler and clearer and added more information around the importance of equality, diversity and inclusivity.

We have also updated the codes so they include information about how you should behave on social media, as well as outside of work in general.

The proposed changes won’t affect your practice, and you’re not expected to work in a different way.

We’re holding a consultation between 30 September and 17 December to find out what people think about our proposed changes.

After the consultation ends, we’ll look at all the feedback we’ve received and decide on the final version of the codes.

We’ll let you know as soon as we’ve agreed on an implementation date for the new codes.

We’ll give you plenty of warning and won’t expect social care workers to start working to the new codes straight away.
