Find out when and how to renew your registration.
When to renew your registration
Your registration lasts for three years.
If you don’t renew your registration before the end of the three years, your registration will come to an end. This means you’ll no longer be on our Register, and you won’t be able to work in a role that requires registration in Wales.
To make sure we can renew your registration before it runs out, you’ll need to apply from around three months before your three-year registration period ends.
We’ll email you to let you know when it’s time to apply.
How to renew your registration
You can renew your registration by going to the ‘Renew’ section of your SCWonline account.
You must submit your application at least 21 days before the end of your three-year registration period.
If you haven’t applied 21 days before your registration is due to end, we’ll let you and your last known employer know that we’ll remove you from the Register once your registration has ended.
We can’t guarantee we can process renewal applications received less than 21 days before your renewal date, but we’ll try our best.
Paying for your renewal
You’ll need to pay a fee to renew your registration. Here’s information about current fees.
Endorsing your renewal application
Social care workers
If you’re a social care worker, your application will need to be formally supported by someone in your organisation. This is known as endorsing.
This person must:
- not be related to you
- not have a personal relationship with you
- be in a senior position to you in your organisation.
When you apply through your SCWonline account, you’ll need to choose someone from the list of people in your organisation who can support your application. These people are known as signatories.
Once you’ve submitted your application, your signatory can log into their SCWonline account, read the information and answer the questions.
Social care managers and social workers
If you’re a social care manager or social worker, it’s unlikely you’ll need someone to formally support your application. But if you do, we’ll let you know when you apply.
Self-employed workers
If you're a self-employed social care worker, or employed by a family member, you'll need two endorsements. You can find more information about this process in our endorsing guidance.
