Claiming back tax on your registration fee

Tax relief for professional fees and subscriptions

If you’re a UK taxpayer, you can claim tax relief on your registration fees.

This means that for a registered person paying tax at the basic tax rate of 20 per cent, a £30 fee effectively costs £24 after £6 tax relief. Higher rate taxpayers are also eligible.

  • You can only claim tax relief through HMRC - we can’t process it for you.
  • Non-UK taxpayers aren’t eligible for tax relief.
  • You can only claim for fees you’ve paid yourself.

How to claim tax relief

There are two ways of claiming tax relief on your registration fees:

  1.  If you don’t file a tax return, you can claim tax relief using form P87: Tax relief for expenses of employment, available on the GOV.UK website
  2.  If you complete a self-assessment tax return, you can claim tax relief from your registration fees on the employment expenses section.

Remember that you must pay the full fee to Social Care Wales and claim any tax relief separately through HMRC.
