When to renew your registration
Your registration lasts for up to three years.
We’ll contact you to let you know when it’s time to apply.
If you don’t renew your registration before the end of the three years, your registration will come to an end. This means you’ll no longer be on our Register, and you won’t be able to work in a social care role in Wales that requires registration.
You must submit your application at least 21 days before the end of your three-year registration period.
If you don’t, we’ll let you and your last known employer know that we’ll remove you from the Register once your registration has ended.
We can’t guarantee we can process late renewal applications, but we’ll try our best.
How to renew your registration
- Step 1: Log into your SCWonline account.
- Step 2: Go to the ‘Renew’ section.
- Step 3: Complete and submit your application.
- Step 4: If you’re a social care worker your signatory needs to endorse your application.

Endorsing your renewal application
Social care workers
If you’re a social care worker, your application will need to be supported by someone in your organisation. This is known as endorsing.
This person must:
- be in a more senior position than you in your organisation
- not be related to you
- not have a personal relationship with you.
When you apply through your SCWonline account, you’ll need to choose someone from the list of people in your organisation who can support your application. These people are known as signatories.
Social care managers and social workers
If you’re a social care manager or social worker, it’s unlikely you’ll need someone to endorse your application, but if you do, we’ll let you know when you apply.
Self-employed workers
If you're a self-employed social care worker, or employed by a family member, you'll need two endorsements. You can find more information about this process in our endorsing guidance.
