Our Strategic equality plan – public engagement is now open. Share your views with us before 27 March.
Introduction
This is the first phase of engagement for our new 'Strategic equality plan for 2027 to 2031' and we need your help.
This plan sets out our vision for how we will:
- proactively tackle discrimination
- promote equality and diversity across all our work
- foster a more inclusive society throughout Wales.
What is a strategic equality plan?
A strategic equality plan is something we must have under the Public Sector Equality Duty in Wales. It sets out:
- our equality objectives
- the steps and timescales for achieving our objectives
- how we'll monitor our progress and effectiveness
- how we’ll gather and publish relevant equality information
- how we’ll carry out equality impact assessments
- how we’ll address issues, such as pay differences and staff awareness.
Drawing inspiration from our 2022 to 2027 strategic plan and shaped by the many challenges brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, we want to build on its success and go further in tackling discrimination. You can read our current plan here.
Our ambition goes beyond objectives. Equality can’t be passive, it requires honesty, courage and open collaboration.
Help us shape our next strategic equality plan
We want your help to shape the future of equality, diversity and inclusion in social care and early years across Wales, and in Social Care Wales.
To do this, we'd like to hear what you think our priorities should be for:
- The workforce: Supporting the social care, early years and childcare sectors as positive, equitable places to work
- Organisations: Supporting services to develop positive, anti-discriminatory cultures for the benefit of all citizens of Wales
- Systems and leadership: Strategic systems and leadership that support fairness and equality in the social care sector
- Our regulatory work: Making sure our work to regulate the social care sector is fair.
We want to understand the lived experiences of social care professionals, users of care and support, carers and partners. We want to hear where inequalities persist, where we have made progress and what actions you think we should focus on.
We want this plan to form part of a series that thinks in long-term way and considers the well-being of future generations.
How you can help
This is where your experiences and insights will help us to:
- make sure we continue to do work that makes a positive difference
- identify where inequalities still exist
- build objectives that reflect challenges and opportunities
- make sure our strategic equality plan achieves meaningful change for professionals, unpaid carers and those who use care and support.
By telling us what you think, you’ll be helping us create a sector that's fairer, more inclusive and better for everyone. It’s your chance to influence how we tackle discrimination and promote equality for years to come.
Help us shape our plan so that it reflects our ambition for positive, equitable change and becomes a meaningful way forward with achievable and ambitious targets.

- You don’t need to answer every question if you don’t want to
- Your personal details won’t be collected unless you choose to give them
