On 30 September 2026, we’ll be bringing the care worker card to an end.
We introduced the card in 2020 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic to help care workers identify as key workers and receive benefits such as priority access to supermarkets. It is not a registration card.
We later partnered with Discounts for Carers to help care workers sign up to the benefits available through the service.
As the original need for the card and its benefits have subsided, and care workers can now sign up to discounts and rewards services without the card, we’ve decided the time is right to bring the card to an end.
Care workers in Wales can still sign up to Discounts for Carers to make use of their benefits. While social care and early years workers are also eligible for other discounts and rewards services such as the Blue Light Card.
If you’re a card holder, please note your card will expire on 30 September 2026. It isn’t linked to your registration, so it won’t affect your registration in any way.
