Nominations are now open for the 2026 Caring in Welsh award.
The Caring in Welsh award recognises and celebrates workers who make a positive difference to people’s lives by providing care and support through the medium of Welsh.
The award is open to any paid workers who work in social care, social work or childcare, play and early years in Wales who provide excellent care through the medium of Welsh.
We’re now inviting members of the public, employers and those working in care to nominate a worker.
The worker doesn’t need to be a fluent Welsh speaker, as long as they use the language when they provide care and support – a little bit of Welsh goes a long way!
The finalists and their nominators will be invited to an award ceremony at the National Eisteddfod in y Garreg Las, Pembrokeshire, in August.
Sarah McCarty, our Chief Executive, said: “Being able to access care and support from someone who can communicate in your language is an important part of receiving dignified, high-quality care.
“This award aims to celebrate the amazing workers who provide care in Welsh – and to inspire others to start learning, grow their confidence and use their Welsh skills at work. We also hope it encourages more people to see how valuable their language skills are when considering a rewarding career in care."
Last year’s winner, Myfanwy Harman, was celebrated for her work providing high-quality Welsh medium childcare to local children in Merthyr Tydfil.
Find out more about Myfanwy’s work providing high quality care while promoting the Welsh language in her community. You might just be inspired to submit your own nomination…
If you’d like to nominate a worker, all you have to do is fill out a nomination form, letting us know why the worker deserves to be recognised and the difference they make to the lives of the people they support through their use of Welsh.
You’ll need to make sure the worker is happy to be nominated before sending us your entry.
If they’re chosen as one of our finalists, we’ll use their story to publicise the award and promote the importance of providing care and support through the medium of Welsh.
The closing date for nominations is 5pm on 22 June.
