Sessional day care / Preschool manager / person in charge

The manager would be the person responsible for setting the operational direction and organising the effective running of the provision. The manager will normally be the “person in charge”.

Required by National Minimum Standards:

The National Minimum Standards state: ‘the person in charge has at least a level 3 childcare qualification recognised on the Social Care Wales’s Qualification Framework’ or The Playwork Education and Training Council for Wales List of Required Qualifications for Playwork (or any lists which supersede them) which is appropriate to the post.

  1. WJEC Level 2 Children's Care, Play, Learning and Development: Core

plus one of the following

  1. City and Guilds Level 3 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Practice

or

  1. WJEC Level 3 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Practice and Theory

Degrees:

  1. University of South Wales: BA Early Years Education and Practice (with Early Years Practitioner status)

  2. University of South Wales: Fd Early Years Education and Practice (with Early Years Practitioner status)

  3. Cardiff Metropolitan University: BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies with Early Years Practice Status (EYPS)

  4. Cardiff Metropolitan University: BA (Hons) Early years education and professional practice with EYPS

  5. Glyndwr University: Fd Early Childhood Studies (EYPS)

  6. University Trinity St Davids: BA Early Years Education and Care: Early Years Practitioner Status

  7. Swansea University: Early Childhood Studies with Early years practitioner

  8. Aberystwyth University: BA Early Childhood Studies with Early Years Practitioner Status

  9. University Trinity St David’s: HE Diploma Early Years Education and Care: Early Years Practitioner Status

  10. Prifysgol Caerdydd: BA (Anrh) Addysg Gynnar ac Ymarferydd Proffesiynol gyda Statws Ymarferydd Blynyddoedd Cynnar (bi-lingual)

Recommended for practice:

To raise the standards within early years and childcare settings and to reflect the ambition of the Welsh government, the following qualifications are recommended for practice as managers.

  1. City and Guilds Level 4 Preparing for Leadership and Management in Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development

plus

  1. City and Guilds Level 5 Leadership and Management of Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Practice

or

  1. City and Guilds Level 4 Professional Practice in Children's Care, Play, Learning and Development
