We looked at
how can we support staff
well-being in Powys.
And we looked at providing staff
well-being events,
decompression sessions
for newly qualified social workers.
We also look at debrief events, sessions
for people that have been through
a critical incident at work,
and we've recently introduced Schwartz
Rounds as well.
I think we're really looking at new ways
of meeting staff well-being.
When we ran the staff well-being event,
it was fantastic to see that
a lot of the activities
were provided by staff themselves.
I’d helped with a bit of the setting up
of the event, but I also got to attend it
as like I said, an attendee. For myself,
I got to learn some new techniques.
It was all built around the staff
and giving them that opportunity to relax,
learn new skills, share things,
and you could really sense
that team building
kind of aspect of it as well.
The moment you qualify,
the level of responsibilities
goes up massively.
And with that comes stress,
and a lot of difficult
and challenging emotions as well.
So for me,
it was useful having Claire to have a chat
with who could understand
how I was feeling and empathise with me,
and give me strategies to help cope
with stressful situations.
Without it
I think I'd still be a social worker,
but I'd be a more stressed social worker
and that could have an impact on
the families and the children I support.
So, it's allowed me
to be a better social worker.
