We’re working with Medr to gather feedback about the apprenticeship frameworks for Wales in Health and Social Care, and Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development, which were developed in 2019 and 2020.
Between 15 September and 10 October, we’d like to hear your thoughts about our proposed changes to them.
What’s changed?
We asked people providing apprenticeships, and other regulatory bodies, for their views about the information in the apprenticeship frameworks.
They suggested:
- combining the current frameworks into one framework for Health and Social Care and one framework for Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development
- updating the general information
- making the language more active to promote anti-discrimination, and strengthening how reasonable adjustments may need to be applied to apprenticeships
- lowering the Essential Skills level for Application of Number for some of the Level 3 apprenticeships
- making clear links with the qualification framework for health and social care, and early years and childcare.
The vocational qualifications in the framework aren’t part of this consultation.
Commenting on the consultation, our Chief Executive, Sarah McCarty said: “This review is an important opportunity to improve the experience of learners and employers across Wales.
“Apprenticeships provide an important and popular way of supporting professional development. They combine working in the sector with support from experienced professionals alongside formal training.
“More than 4,000 people in Wales were awarded apprenticeship certificates last year, gaining the qualifications social care workers need for professional registration with Social Care Wales, so we want to hear from as many people as possible - especially those directly involved in providing or doing apprenticeships.
“Your feedback will help shape the future of these frameworks, so please take part in our online consultation and encourage others to do the same.”
Harriet Barnes, Director of Research, Innovation and Skills at Medr, said: “We’re pleased to work with Social Care Wales to review these apprenticeships frameworks. Our data tells us that health and social care and childcare apprenticeships are consistently in high demand throughout Wales, so it’s important that they’re up to date and reflect the needs of learners, employers and the economy.
“We’re especially keen to hear from learning providers and stakeholders, so we’d encourage people to take part in this apprenticeship framework consultation and send their feedback.”
