Free training to showcase the tools and techniques we use to support innovation in social care

| Social Care Wales

Join our innovation coaching team to learn more about their work and discover the tools they use to support people to make positive change in social care.

We launched our free innovation coaching service in September and our coaches have been supporting individuals and teams to put their ideas into practice.

We’ve now created a training programme that’ll give you an overview of the support the team offer, as well as introducing a range of innovation and coaching tools you can take away to use with your own organisation.

Who's it for?

The training is open to anyone who works in social care in Wales.

It’s suitable for anyone who’s interested in improving the care services they offer or are offered by their organisation. You might work in the public sector, private sector, or for a charity or voluntary organisation.

The training is available in both Welsh and English.

It’ll be particularly useful for:

  • people with responsibility for improving care services
  • people who are interested in the existing innovation coaching offer but want to know more about it
  • people who’ve taken part in innovation coaching and want to push their skills further.

What will it cover?

The training will be split into four parts. Participants will:

  • hear how they can bring innovation and coaching together to improve services
  • get practical experience of using innovation and coaching tools
  • develop confidence to use them in their work.

Parts one and two

These will focus on coaching and will:

  • help you to better understand the benefits and uses of coaching tools
  • introduce you to a range of coaching tools that you can use in your work
  • help you understand how to develop good coaching relationships
  • provide opportunities to practice using tools to coach others.

Parts three and four

These will focus on innovation and show you how to use innovation tools to:

  • help you get a new perspective on the complex challenges you face
  • put people accessing services at the heart of service improvements
  • think of new ways to solve problems
  • try out ideas in low-cost and low-risk ways.

How do I get involved?

We encourage you to sign up to all four parts, but you’re free to mix and match between the available dates in June and September if needed. We’ll make more dates available in the coming months.

How is this different from the innovation coaching itself?

We launched our innovation coaching service in September 2023. We offer up to 12 hours of free tailored support to individuals or teams to help them improve their service.

We’ve had positive feedback from people who’ve used the service, so we wanted to find new ways of explaining it and showing what it can do for the sector.

This new training will show you how to use the tools and techniques we use in our coaching sessions. It’ll allow you to get a taster of what innovation coaching can offer, as well as an opportunity to take the tools away to try yourself.

People who’ve already used our coaching service are also welcome to attend to get a deeper understanding of the approaches we took in their coaching sessions.

While the training format means we won’t be able to offer the intensive support that we can during coaching, we are keeping the participant numbers limited to help us make the training practical and interactive.

Feedback on our coaching service

"I've found the coaching sessions to be extremely beneficial.

"The sessions have also been a chance to pause and reflect with someone thoughtful, encouraging and knowledgeable."

- Kate Aubrey, Lead Manager for Practice, Rhondda Cynon Taf Children's Services
