Have you tried using values to find the best candidates for your roles?

| Social Care Wales

We’ve published a toolkit to help you attract, recruit – and support – employees who align with your values and culture, and want to stay with your organisation.

Our values-based recruitment toolkit has practical tips and templates to help you review your current recruitment practises, and embed values into what you already do.

We’ve designed the toolkit for people working in residential children’s care, but anyone in social care recruitment can use it.

This practical toolkit is supported by five videos, including a case study of how this has been used to review recruitment practices in a local authority.

This can help you get the most out of your recruitment.

We know that values-based recruitment can support you to:

  • widen your recruitment pool by looking beyond previous experience and qualifications
  • attract and identify candidates who have the potential and passion to be amazing employees
  • find candidates who are committed to your organisation’s culture and vision
  • create a positive culture needed to provide outstanding care
  • give care and support as set out in the Social Services and Well-being Act (2014) and Well-being of Future Generations Act (2015).

“An innovative way to recruit people”

Elle Henley, Community Manager (new models of residential children's care) for Social Care Wales said:

“Values-based recruitment is an innovative way of recruiting people; it gives both candidates and employers the chance to make sure they’re the best fit for one another.

“Not everyone is comfortable in interviews, and may not shine as bright in traditional interviews and scoring methods.

“Values-based recruitment can help social care employers – especially residential children’s homes – to find, attract, recruit and retain people who share their organisation's values, and have the behaviours to support people to thrive in their care.

“Our toolkit and videos are a great way to help you wherever you are on the journey. Whether that’s getting to grips with the basics of values-based recruitment, or looking for fresh ideas to support long and fulfilling careers in children’s social care.”
