Social Work Week 2025

| Social Care Wales
Social work week 2025

This week, we’re celebrating Social Work Week!

Social Work Week gives us the chance to mark the excellent work being carried out across the country, and thank hard-working social work professionals.

Every day throughout Wales, social work professionals show their dedication to supporting and empowering people who are experiencing complex challenges and may be at higher risk of harm. We want to show our appreciation to hard-working social work professionals who are committed to empowering and supporting others.

Sarah McCarty, our Chief Executive, said: “Social workers are often in roles you can’t see, working with individuals and families in their own homes and communities. They can help us navigate some of the most significant challenges in our lives and do so in a way that helps us to focus on strengths and what matters to individuals and their families.

“My heartfelt thank you goes to each and every social worker, and I’d like to thank them for their dedication, compassion and for choosing this profession.”

We’ve organised an exciting programme of events for the week, open to anyone with an interest in social work in Wales. On Tuesday 18 March we’ll be celebrating World Social Work Day.

The events of the week focus on three main themes:

  • strengthening our professional relationships
  • maintaining our social work identity
  • supporting our well-being at work.

We’ll be joined by inspirational speakers from universities, the Association of Directors of Social Services (ADSS) Cymru, as well as practising social workers and specialists in areas such as moral injury and neurodiversity.

Throughout the week, we’ll also be sharing videos about the importance of social work and the difference it makes to the lives of people across Wales.

Keep an eye on our social media channels throughout the week to see inspiring messages.
