Required by National Minimum Standards:
City and Guilds unit 326 - Introduction to home-based childcare
City and Guilds unit 327 - Preparing for childminding practice
These are units and not qualifications and both are required prior to registration with Care Inspectorate Wales.
Registration is not required

Anyone who proposes to act as a childminder must be registered with Care Inspectorate Wales.

WJEC Level 3 Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development: Practice and Theory (including units 326 and 327)
CYPOP 5 - Understand how to set up a home-based childcare service (if enrolled before 1 September 2019)
Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development (Wales and Northern Ireland) including unit CYPOP5 – Understand how to set up a home-based childcare service
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children's Care, Learning and Development (Advanced Practice) Wales and Northern Ireland including unit CYPOP5
Certificate in Childminding Practice
Diploma in Childminding Practice
Level 3 Diploma in Home based Child Care
Other UK qualifications accepted
England:
CACHE Preparing to Work in Home-based Childcare
No additional learning required.
Northern Ireland:
No additional learning required. The qualification is the same for Northern Ireland and Wales.
Scotland :
There is no formal recognised route at present.
Induction requirements
Practitioners who are new to the early years and childcare sector or new to an organisation should complete the All Wales Induction Framework for Early Years and Childcare.
