0:10 Oaklands is a short breaks service for young people
0:13 with a complex disability.
0:16 We provide fantastic service Monday to Sunday
0:19 and it's a really, really important service
0:21 not just for the families
0:23 but for the young people.
0:24 So for the families,
0:25 it gives them time to take a breath,
0:28 spend time with their other siblings or young children,
0:31 but also for the children that come to stay with us,
0:34 they can learn independent skills,
0:36 a little bit of time away from mum and dad or carers.
0:39 My personal life wouldn’t be okay without this service
0:43 without the help this service is giving me.
0:47 I don't think I would have one good night
0:50 a week
0:51 or time to go and do shopping
0:53 or spend quality time with my other kids.
0:55 A lot of people will benefit from it, if it did continue going on.
0:59 I'm most proud of the children.
1:01 I'm proud of us as a staff team.
1:04 The children are fab.
1:05 We don't have them here at Oaklands
1:07 for them to fit into our world,
1:09 we fit into theirs.
1:11 And when we think of the challenges that they face daily,
1:14 they do have a lot of challenges,
1:16 some more than others,
1:17 some days are worse than others,
1:20 and we're all really proud of them.
1:22 How could you go home from all those lovely little faces
1:25 and switch off?
1:27 And that’s why I love my job.
1:29 I don't even think of it as work, to be honest with you.
1:32 I don't.
1:32 We are just like a big family, really.
