Temporary register of social workers to close to new applicants

| Social Care Wales

On 26 March 2020, we opened a temporary register of social workers to allow social workers who’d recently left the Register to come back to practise during the pandemic.

We were able to do this because of The Coronavirus Act 2020 and the introduction of the Social Care Wales (Emergency Registration of Social Workers) Rules 2020.

The extraordinary measures only applied for two years and they are due to come to an end on 25 March 2022.

After 25 March, we will contact everyone who is on the temporary register to ask if they still want to be registered.

Those who would like to remain registered will be given guidance about how to move onto the main Register and they will stay on the temporary register until their full registration is granted.

Anyone on the temporary register who doesn’t need to be registered or we’re unable to contact will be removed.

We won’t add any new people to the temporary register after 25 March. So anyone who needs to register with us from that date will have to apply to the main Register instead.

The temporary register will stay open for the time being, but will be closed in due course.

If you have any queries about this, contact our registration team at enquiries@socialcare.wales.
